I was very eager to know the results, so that left me with another sleepless night. My sadness was great when I heard that the game between Getmanski and Ndjofang in the 1/4 finale was decided by the activity of one of the largest electronic annoyances of modern times.
In the 1/2 finale Getmanski showed that he has not needed such help at all. In the game Getmanski-Valneris, last named had to take the risks and would lose in case of only draws. Getmanski took profit from his well earned comfort in a very impressive way. He played actively and sharp and brought the uttermost effort from Valneris to bankrupcy. As you can see in the applets on this site, Valneris tried to complicate the situation as much as he could. At the final of this game, Getmanski took his ticket to the final with an elegant combination.
Georgiev kept control over the situation against Gantwarg and so we will be having a breathtaking final. Getmansky seems to be in his best shape ever and Georgiev is as good as we know him.
To be honest: I liked the women barrages maybe even more. The games have a good level and the results are not so predictable. Both finalists, Golubeva and Chub, will give the ingredients for a marvelous final. Chub had not an easy time against Tansykkuzhina, who layed a considerable amount of pressure upon her. However Chub kept sufficiently in control over the game and was victorious by what I named “killing draws” before.
In the other women 1/2 finale, it was Golubeva that defeated Balthazi. Last named made a great impression with her game in the round before, where she defeated Tkachenko. In the game against Golubeva, however, she was in the disadvantage to be obliged to win. Golubeva took good profit from that.
This night (in the Netherlands) will bring fire works!
