In 1940 in Rio de Janeiro city was published the first draughts book in Brazil and it was about 100 squares board. The author was Geraldino Izidoro and he was the most important person for developing the games (64 brazilian and 100 squares) from 1935 to 1954, when Waldemar Bakumenko, from Ukraine, arrived in Sao Paulo city and started to publish in A Gazeta Esportiva newspaper a columm every Saturday. Bakumenko published this columm until 1969, when he died. In 1963 was founded the Sao Paulo Draughts Federation and in 1967 was founded the Brazilian Draughts Federation. Today in Sao Paulo province there are around 160 teams. 9th May in Brazil is the “Draughts Player Day”, birthday of Geraldino Izidoro
